Thrive can support you to start and grow your business

The opportunity for business ownership has transformed the personal lives of Thrive clients. Clients and their families highlight personal outcomes – a sense of pride, empowerment and self-efficacy, feelings of connection to the community and increased hope for the future.

Thrive business support is personalised and tailored to the unique needs of refugees and asylum seekers, to provide them with knowledge of the Australian business market and to combine this with their skills and experiences to plan and grow successful businesses.

Business support process

The first step is to register your interest for business support.

A Thrive team member will have a 1:1 discussion with you as to the suitability of starting a small business based on your objectives, skills, experience and risk appetite. Starting a small business is not for everyone so it’s important to work through your situation.

For those where starting a small business makes sense, we can work with you on a basic business plan and cashflows to determine viability and risks.

For those businesses that require a business loan, Thrive can work with you to determine the amount and terms of that loan.

Once you have started your business, Thrive can make available to you training and mentoring to maximise your success. We will also conduct an annual business review as part of your ongoing planning.

Thrive supported businesses are diverse

Clients’ businesses supported by Thrive operate in a diverse range of industries. Of these, around 50% are driven by the personal skills, experience and passions of the business owner. The other 50% are suggested by Thrive as part of its support model, offering a “Business in a Box”, assisting the client to become self-employed through an established pathway, generally in cleaning services or transport work for one of its business partners.
